The Central Pub
14 Castle Street,Peel
Telephone: 01624 844143
Opening Times: Opened Under New Management (Aug 2013)
The central hotel established around 1608 one of the first pubs ever recorded on the isle of man, once one of sixteen pubs in this little narrow street, it would have had maybe a barrel of homemade beer and a barrel of rum (probably contraband) in the front room, old newspaper cuttings tell of an entrance to a smugglers tunnel that ran from the back door of the central down the street to connect with other pubs to avoid the customs men.
The Central has recently re-opened under new management (August 2013) but still retains its olde world charm, and has a tiny bar,a log fire and is now serving food once again.
